Coming without a partner? You're in good company.

Many people arrive on their own. Partners normally rotate during class, so you will meet other learners and do not need to find or bring a fixed partner. If you prefer not to rotate, just let the teacher know.

Should a beginner learn Salsa On1 or On2?

Both are valid ways to time salsa. The most important thing is finding a class and community where you enjoy learning. Funky Mambo teaches New York-style Salsa On2, and complete beginners can start directly with On2 — you do not need to learn On1 first.

Keep it comfortable

What to wear and bring

Your first class does not require specialist dancewear or dance shoes.

  • Wear comfortable clothes that let you move freely.
  • Choose clean, flexible shoes that turn comfortably and do not mark the floor.
  • Bring water and anything you normally use to stay fresh while exercising.
  • Specialist salsa shoes can wait until you know what feels right for you.
